BARKS is now an FAA-Recognized Identification Area (FRIA)

The BARKS Snow Camp field and club has been classified as an FAA-Recognized
Identification Area (FRIA) by the FAA and we will retain this status until September 8, 2027, at which time the FRIA can be renewed.

The BARKS FRIA is not open to public access. You must be a member of BARKS or a guest of an adult BARKS member to fly at the field.

 FRIA requirements:
  • The area of our FRIA complies with the yellow-backed signs posted in our shelters.
  • The law requires that all recreational flyers pass an aeronautical knowledge and safety
test and provide proof of passage if asked by law enforcement or FAA personnel. The
Recreational UAS Safety Test (TRUST) was developed to meet this requirement. Here is
      the link: https://www.faa.gov/uas/recreational_flyers/knowledge_test_updates
   • For models that weigh over 0.55 pounds (= 8.8 oz = 250grams):
      1. Register at least one model on the FAADroneZone. Here is the link:
          https://faadronezone-access.faa.gov/#/
      2. Put your FAA Small UAS Registration number on each model.
      3. Run the B4UFLY mobile app to make sure there are no active FAA Advisories that
          would prevent you from flying.

NOTE: A transponder is NOT REQUIRED to fly any model in a FRIA.

BARKS Flight Restriction Schedule

Effective June 13th, 2022 flying on Tuesdays will be restricted to electric aircraft ONLY.  Please continue to be aware that the club continues to experience noise complaints that potentially threaten the continued existence of the club.  Please make every effort to keep noise at a minimum.

The following rule remains in effect indefinitely:
Models with internal combustion engines are not to be flown before 10:30 AM on Sunday mornings.

BARKS Annual RC Annual Swap Meet has been Discontinued

It is with mixed emotions that we announce that after 30 years, the BARKS Annual RC Swap meet has been discontinued for 2020 and beyond.  We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause our swap shop patrons and fellow flyers.
